I’ve been buying LPs lately and recognizing how uncool I am as I step up to the counter with Olivia Newton John, Juice Newton (what is it about Newtons?), and Billy Joel records. I’m tempted to say that not caring about being cool makes me cool, but then I remember this exchange from the Homerpalooza episode (S7 S24) of The Simpsons.
Marge: Am I cool, kids?
Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Good. I’m glad. And that’s what makes me cool—not caring, right?
Bart and Lisa: No.
I can’t even say I don’t care! But the desire for serenity has come to outweigh the desire to be cool.
